What are sports injuries?
Sports injuries are as unique as the individual sports themselves.
This is why it is important to receive a thorough, individualized
examination of your injury to determine the cause and proper
treatment for your injury.
Unfortunately many of these injuries, if not treated properly,
can limit or end participation in a sport. Luckily many of these
injuries can be treated with chiropractic.
How does Chiropractic treat sport injuries?
If you have been hurt in a sports injury, Dr. Higginson will
take a thorough history and examination to determine if you
are a candidate for chiropractic care. If it is determined that
your case would not be suited for chiropractic, Dr. Higginson
will refer you to the appropriate provider.
Pain Relief and Treatment
If you are a candidate for chiropractic care, your treatment
will begin with pain relief and inflammation reduction. This
might include electrical muscle stim, ultrasound and ice. If
you injury is not too acute, joint manipulation may be performed
to improve the healing of the bones and joints.
Rehabilitation
The last thing you want as an athlete is to have a re-injury
that prevents you from participating in the sport you love.
Rehabilitation is the key to re-injury prevention. Most rehabilitation
can be done in your home and without expensive machines. Dr.
Higginson will design an individualized rehab protocol as a part
of your treatment. You will be asked to perform these exercises
in office periodically to make sure you are doing them correctly.
Education
Understanding your injury is the first step to preventing a
re-injury. Dr. Higginson will educate you on how to prevent a
re-injury.
